About the Role
The Strategic Communications practice of FTI Consulting is seeking to hire summer interns to support the implementation of strategic communications programs for a variety of clients across the Americas for a 10 week program. While a strong interest in communications is necessary, our internship is not exclusive to public relations or communications applicants. Knowledge of the financial markets, economics, data analysis, employee engagement, social media intelligence, media or government relations is applicable. Successful candidates should have excellent communication (both written and oral) and critical-thinking skills, be able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced and deadline compelled environment.

What You’ll Do
• Assist in drafting communications materials (e.g. writing press releases and briefing documents)
• Compile, track, summarize and report on media coverage
• Conduct background research on companies and core capability topics
• Assist with maintaining contact lists, editorial forward features lists, and event calendars
• Assist with corporate communications and media relations engagements (e.g. liaising with journalists, distributing press releases, providing
Support for press conferences)
• Assist with financial communications and investor relations engagements (e.g. writing earnings related materials, assisting with investment community marketing plans, providing strategic counsel on capital markets activity)
• Assist on new business initiatives (e.g. conducting research on prospects, creating and editing PowerPoint presentations and proposals, etc.)

We are looking for interns in each of the following practices (Click below to learn about each):
• M&A, Crisis & Special Situations: Our Special Situations specialists advise companies on event-driven communications when confronted with critical situations. Our professionals take a campaign-like approach to these challenges, closely coordinating with management teams, as well as legal, financial and other advisors to provide strategic counsel on all aspects of internal and external communications.
• Corporate Reputation: We help companies define and promote their corporate brand, elevate the values underlying that brand and protect it when threatened by both internal and external challenges. Our specialists use tailored corporate reputation services that deliver credible and consistent messages to priority stakeholders through a variety of channels.
• Public Affairs & Govt Relations: In political capitals and regulatory centers, we organize and implement results-focused, research-driven political messaging campaigns that support business objectives, are informed by corporate communications strategies and are aligned with capital markets communications to shape debate; conditioning the environment for favorable policy outcomes.
• Capital Markets: With an in-depth understanding of what the investment community wants and needs, FTI Consulting helps corporate leaders navigate through moments of transition, deliver a consistent and credible corporate narrative to the market, engage with Wall Street and cultivate a growing shareholder base.
• People & Change: Our People & Change team designs and implements internal communications and engagement programs to enlighten and involve employees on a global, regional or local level. We help increase employee understanding of business strategy and build leadership credibility in situations, including new strategy or vision introduction, mergers and acquisitions, operating model changes, outsourcing or insourcing, workforce consolidation or reduction, and restructuring or reorganization, among others.
• Digital & Insights: The Digital & Insights practice at FTI Consulting conceives and produces integrated design, content and digital strategies to influence key client stakeholders. From web design, content development and social media to video production and branding support, we help clients tell a compelling story about who they are, what they do and why they matter.
• Strategy Consulting & Research: The mission of the Strategy Consulting & Research practice is to deliver in-depth market and stakeholder analyses to help clients solve complex business and communications problems. Working closely with industry sector experts within FTI Consulting, our team rigorously researches stakeholder perceptions and clients’ brands and operations, as well as the financial markets.

How You’ll Grow
As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to learn and have exposure to a full range of strategic communications services. You will also participate in an intensive training program, which includes an introduction to FTI’s business, databases and processes as well as sessions focused on the development of practical research, media relations and investor relations skills. The internship is designed to introduce entry-level candidates to the inner workings of an international communications firm and to help develop necessary written and oral communication skills needed for this industry. Interns will be paid hourly and are expected to work on a full-time basis, 40 hours per week.
 

Basic Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (graduating in 2020) with a strong academic record
• Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
• Permanent US work authorization

Preferred Skills:
• Strong attention to detail
• Previous related internship experience
• Excellent research, writing and organization skills
• Highly motivated and able to work easily in both large team environments or independently
• Analytical approach to creating work product
• Social, passionate and eager to learn and have an ability to work well within a team
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments
• Competency in using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
